Cry over missing railings, bad lights on Third Mainland Bridge

AS the euphoria          surrounding the re-opening of the Third Mainland Bridge continues, Lagos residents have cried out over  missing railings at various sections of the bridge, as well as some non-functional road lights.
Some Lagosians who spoke with the Nigerian Tribune on the development were of the opinion that the Federal Government should have made an arrangement for the missing railings, which, according to reports, were yet to be fixed for years.
They argued that if the government could fix the eight joints of the bridge with N1 billion, the railings and lights should have been put into consideration, because they were also important to the safety of  users.
Speaking on the development, Mrs Apam Asuquo stated that “many of the railings have been missing for years and some of the lights are not working. I don’t know why the N1 billion allotted to fix the eight joints could not also be made to include re-fixing the missing rails and lights. If we dig deep, I am sure cans of worms will be opened as regards the project.”
Another Lagosian, who simply identified   himself as Segun, also flayed this development. According to him, robbers could take advantage of the partial darkness created as a result of the bad lights to terrorise users.
“The missing railings were not recently removed by vandals; they had been removed for a very long time. I wonder when the government will see the importance of the missing railings. Is it when there is a major preventable catastrophe as a result of the missing railings that the government will wake up to its responsibilities?” he queried.
