6 arraigned for murder, pipeline vandalisation



THE police, on Thursday in Lagos, arraigned six suspects  in connection with the alleged killings at Arepo, Ogun State scene of pipeline vandalisation.
They were arrested by the Inspector General of Police Pipeline Anti-Vandalisation Unit.
The suspects,  Inerepamu Ijebu Joel, John Aye Isaiah, Ineye Okposa, Timi Gunugunu, Saheed Olisa Mudashiru and Oluwole Posibi Reuben, were arraigned  for the  alleged murder of three officials of  the Nigerian National Petroleum (NNPC) before Justice Mohammed Idris of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos
The defendants were said to have committed the   crime on  September 5, 2012.
The police prosecutor, Assistant Commissioner of Police,  Friday Ibadin, told the court that the accused and others now at large, conspired among themselves to commit the offence on September 5, 2012.
He also said  that the suspects  tampered with the  NNPC pipeline, which was  for the transmission of refined oil.
He alleged that the defendants murdered three men, Agbaku Oau,  Ernest Ngene and Ikechukwu Ikenem,  by shooting them with a pump action gun.
According to him “the offences committed are punishable under section 3 (6), 7 (b)  of the Miscellaneous Offences Act Cap M17 and Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap C38 Laws of the Federation 2004.”
When the charges were read to the defendants, they pleaded not guilty.
Justice Idris adjourned the matter till December 18, 2012.
Ibadin, urged the court, to commence full trial of the case, as all the witnesses involved in the case were all present in court.
He also prayed  the court, to allow the defendants access to lawyer, which is in line with the procedure of the court.
He insisted that  the police was fully prepared to ensure that  justice was duly served on the defendants involved in the case.
“ The defendants have the right to say whatever they want to say at the moment,” he said.”
