Boko Haram:Borno seeks FG’s intervention

As the defiant Islamic sect, Boko Haram, continues to wreak havoc in North, the Borno State government, at the weekend, made a plea to the Federal Government to wade into the matter, with a view to putting an end to the raging wanton destruction of life and property in the state.
This is just as the state government accused President Goodluck Jonathan; Vice President Namadi Sambo; Senate President, David Mark;  Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal and other prominent Nigerians, especially those of the northern extraction of abadoning the state and keeping mute on the activities of the sect which had claimed thousands of lives and properties worth billions of naira.
The state government also raised the alarm that all manners of groups, including hoodlums, politicians and businessmen had hijacked the activities of the sect to promote their selfish interests which had made the situation more complex to handle.
Fielding questions from newsmen in Abuja at the weekend, state Commissiner for Home Affairs and Information, Mr Inuwa Bwala, lamented that the plea for the Federal Government’s intervention became necessary in order to put an end to the destructions of life and property in the state and restore sanity to enhance its development by the Governor Kashim Shettima-led administration.
He disclosed that the state had been abandoned by the Federal Government and all its functionaries, as well as the leadership of the two chambers of the National Assembly, Senator Mark and Honourable Tambuwal, as well as ministers of the northern extraction, while till date there had never been any official statement or condolence visit by the president or his representatives to commisserate the government and people of the state over the mass killings in the state by the sect.
According to him, “to us,the president is not showing any interest in Borno matter, may be because it is not a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) state, Borno is under All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), mind you, all those prominent people being killed in Borno are ANPP members, no single PDP member has been killed till date, things cannot continue like this.
“The president should take a second look at what is going on in Borno and show more commitment towards finding a lasting solution to it because Borno is still part of Nigeria, it is on records that the president had in the past visited states where lesser incidents happened or he sent high powered delegations to such states, why not Borno?
“Also the Vice President Sambo, the Senate President, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, ministers and other top government functionaries, all who are from the North, have also abandoned the state to its fate.
“Though we are aware that they do come to the state some times, but they have never made it a point of concern to find out from us how we are managing the challenges. Things are not done like that, the situation  will not be like that forever, it will soon be history,’’ he stated.
On why it had been so difficult to put the sect out of bussiness despite all efforts by  various security agencies deployed to check their activities, the commissioner said, “we now have various components of Boko Haram, the politicians, armed robbers and businessmen.
