Delta Police order Fulani herdsmen to surrender illegal arms

Worried about the activities of Fulani herdsmen in Delta State, the State Police Command yesterday ordered them to surrender all illegal arms in their possession or face the wrath of the law.

State Police Public Relation Officer, Charles Muka, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said the decision was taken following some discoveries by the command.

He said: "We have taken measures to check the activities of herdsmen in the state and anyone caught breaking the law will be dealt with."Muka said: "We have arrested some of them.

The command will not tolerate any unlawful acts from anybody, therefore nobody keeping illegal arms should surrender them to the police or face the wrath of the law"
He, however, thanked the Hausa/Fulani leaders for their cooperation in checking the activities of herdsmen.

Meanwhile, the Secretary to State Government (SSG), Comrade Ovuozourie Macaulay, has called on Nigerians to partner governments at all levels in the fight against insecurity in the country.

Macaulay said sustainable security would go a long way in solving the problem of unemployment ravaging many countries across the globe. He said: "We must look at unemployment side by side with the issue of security."

He spoke while declaring open, the 2nd Regular Meeting of West African Examinations Council/Libraries and other Trade Group Council of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) in Asaba.

Macaulay, however, said that government alone cannot provide employment for everybody, adding that the only way out of the unemployment situation is for everybody to join hands with government to fight insecurity.

"This is because when there is peace and development, people will come and invest and it is only investors that can remove the idle hands on the streets and not just the government", he said.
