Gunmen abduct oil marketer, Vanguardman’s wife

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers on Monday abducted an oil dealer, Chief Bertram Douglas, from his Ekpeinkiri community, Nembe Local Government area, Bayelsa State.
Douglas’ abduction coincided with the kidnap of Marian, wife of the Rivers State Correspondent of the Vanguard, Mr. Jimitota Onoyume, in Eku, Delta State.
The hoodlums were said to have shot sporadically into the air, creating panic in the area before forcing their victim into a speedboat.
It was learnt that Douglas also sustained bullet wounds during the incident.
Though the motive behind his kidnap was not known, there is speculation that he must have been abducted for a ransom.
His abductors had yet t0 contact his family as at press time on Monday.
Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Fidelis Odunna, confirmed the incident.
Onoyume was reportedly abducted by gunmen around 12.10pm while she was about driving out of her compound.
Her husband said in a text message to our correspondent that the four-man gang that abducted his wife called him on his child’s mobile phone.
The Rivers State’s council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists condemned the abduction.
