Though the police failed to identify the victims, our correspondent learnt that the deceased were an inspector and a corporal.
Their  killers  were said to have driven in an unidentified Sports Utility Van close to the patrol van  before opening fire on their victims.
The injured police officer was said to be receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa.
The motive behind the attack was not known.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Fidelis Odunna, confirmed the incident.
While declining to name the affected officers, he said the police had commenced investigations into the killing.
“We have started investigating the matter and we are not going to arrest until we arrest the suspects,” he said.
Meanwhile,  a four-man gang  raided the New Jerusalem Avenue, Amarata, Yenagoa  on Wednesday night,  dispossessing residents  of their valuables.
The armed men, in  a house-to-house robbery, inflicted machete cuts on one of their victims.
