Hoodlums disrupt church service, beat up pastor, worshipers

The floor and walls of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Oluyemo area in Offa, Kwara State, were littered with bloodstains on Sunday, when a group of young boys stormed and disrupted the early morning service of the church, beating the pastor and members to a pulp.
National Mirror was told that the boys were angry that the church had the audacity to complain about their playing football in the open church premises even when service was going on. It was said that the footballers had earlier been asked by the church to stay off their premises, especially whenever church services were ongoing, which the lads rebuffed.
When the church realised that they lacked the power to stop the footballers from playing in their premises, they reported the matter to the Offa Divisional Police Station. On Sunday, when the Sunday school was going on, the boys came and the church went to call the police to come to their aid.
A plainclothes policeman was said to have been sent to accompany the church delegation, a development that infuriated the boys, according to sources. National Mirror was told that as soon as the policeman introduced himself and ordered the footballers to leave, they descended on him, beat him up and turn his clothes to shreds. It was said that it took the church members to free the policeman from the irate boys.
That, however, did not satisfy the boys, who went away to reinforce and marched on the church later. They allegedly beat up the members and the pastor who later scampered to safety.
In the end, the church was left with bloodstains on the floor and walls. Secretary of the Church, Elder Ajibade Adeyemi, who was said to have confirmed the incident to local newspapers, could not be immediately reached in Offa at the time of filing this report.
