The Ogun State Controller of Customs, Felix
Dosunmu, has denied killing any of his attackers in Ajilete/Owode, Yewa South
Local Government Area of the state penultimate Saturday.
He said contrary to media reports (not The
PUNCH), his convoy was attacked by some suspected smugglers in the area
while he was on his way from Idiroko to Lagos.
Dosunmu said in a statement by the Command Public
Relations Officer, Chike Ngige, that allegations that he shot and killed a
member of the community during the incident were mere “figment of the
imagination” of some people whose aim was to instigate the residents of the
area against the Customs Service.
The statement claimed that the suspected smuggler
alleged to have been shot and killed in the incident actually attempted to
physically attack the Ogun customs boss who had stopped to find out why the
suspected smuggler trailed and drove so dangerously close to the vehicles in
his convoy.
Corroborating the Ogun Customs boss’ claims, the
Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, said none
of the indigenes of the area was killed during the incident.
Olugbenle in a statement by his Media Assistant,
Mr. Adetokunbo Fakeye, said the Customs Area Comptroller was actually saved
from being attacked by the suspected smugglers by a team of policemen who
arrived at the scene.
