Okorocha, Bianca Ojukwu in war of words

Rochas and Bianca

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State and Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu, his erstwhile political ally and wife of the late Biafran warlord, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu may have politically parted ways for good.

Bianca Ojukwu, presently serving as the Nigerian Ambassador to Spain drew the ire of  the Imo State governor when, in a recent interview, she asserted that the leader of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), Chief Ralph Uwazurike was instrumental to the emergence of Okorocha as governor.

Ojukwu had opined that Uwazurike was clearly pivotal in the process that led to Okorocha clinching the governorship ticket of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) for the Imo gubernatorial poll.

Bianca inferred that there was no primaries as the governorship ticket of APGA was discussed in her residence when her husband was alive and the MASSOB leader had pushed fervently for the candidature of Okorocha, which was eventually granted by the Igbo leader and then national leader of APGA, late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.

Reacting through his Special Assistant, Media (Print), Mr. Ebere Uzoukwa, the Imo State governor,  Okorocha described Bianca Ojukwu’s comments as unguarded, advising her to face her new appointment as Nigerian Ambassador to Spain.

According to a statement signed by Uzoukwa and made available to newsmen, “His Excellency Owelle Rochas Okorocha has much respect for the Late Ikemba Ojukwu and the entire family, as such Bianca should not pose a threat to that relationship with her unholy romance with some disgruntled elements and enemies of Imo people.”
The claim by Bianca Ojukwu, according to Uzoukwa, is ‘porous, baseless, unfounded and untrue’.

The statement from the Imo government House clearly averred that the MASSOB leader had just the interest of the PDP at heart during the election.

It partly read, “We recall vividly that during the last governorship election in the state, APGA lost woefully in Chief Ralph Uwazurike's booth, ward and Onuimo, his Local Government Area.

As if we are not aware, the MASSOB leader worked for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its governorship candidate and we strongly believe that Mrs. Bianca Ojukwu is aware of this fact.”
