Police arrest armed robber in army uniform, 3 others

THE leader of a notorious armed robbery gang, Adamu Nyanko, who use army uniform to rob in Nasarawa State and three others, were, last week, nabbed by the Nasarawa State Police Command.
Nyanko and his gang had been a thorn in the flesh of residents of Eggon, Akwanga and Keffi areas.
Parading the suspects, the Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa State, Mr Abayomi Akeremale, who was represented by the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Micheal Ada, warned that the police were doing everything to clamp down on criminals in the state. He said the long arm of the law would catch up with any criminal disguising like Nyanko to dispossess innocent people of their valuables in the state.
The CP stated that, "the Anti-robbery squad attached to Akwanga Area Command, while on patrol on Akwanga/Jos road, were alerted that unknown gunmen had invaded Katanza village, via Andaha, shooting sporadically and dispossessing people of their valuables. The Anti-robbery squad rushed to the scene and engaged robbers in a gun battle. When the robbers sensed that the policemen were armed with superior ammunitions, they took to their heels but two of the suspects were arrested with the support of the villagers.”
Other suspects who were arrested, according to the CP, were Chindo Musa, Mohammed Saidu and Abubakar Usman.
Items recovered from them included one locally made pistol, an army uniform, one dagger, a stick, one motorcycle, one cutlass and two mobile phones.
While appreciating the efforts of the local vigilance groups, community leaders and other stakeholders at ensuring peace in the state, the CP promised the entire populace that adequate security measures had been put in place to checkmate the nefarious activities of the men of the underworld.
Mr Akeremale, while lamenting the burning of accident vehicles by irate youths, said the command would no longer tolerate any jungle justice in the state. He urged community and religious leaders to educate their followers on the need to desist from such act.
His words: “The state police command has observed with dismay the wanton destruction of vehicles that were involved in accidents along public highways by irate mobs, without regard to the rule of law. It is mind boggling to see vehicles that were involved in an accident being burnt to ashes.
"Another aspect of this disturbing trend is that social miscreants under the guise of vehicle injuring or killing their loved ones often take to the streets, thereby looting or barricading the public highways for hours, and causing unnecessary panic to other road users,”he said.
