Robbers Attack LEADERSHIP Director, Shoot Wife

Armed robbers in the early hours of Saturday morning invaded the residence of Mr. Aniebo Nwamu, LEADERSHIP Newspapers’ Standards Director, in Abuja and shot his wife on the head. They also inflicted machete cuts on Nwamu’s head and carted away huge sums of money.
Nwamu’s Honda Accord (Anaconda) official car, and other valuables worth millions of naira were also carted away by the bandits.
The robbers, who arrived in the residence at 2am yesterday, gained entrance into the compound by cutting the barbed-wired fence. It was gathered that while inside the building, they saw the locks in the gate, cut off the metal protector in one of the windows and making efforts to break the entrance door to the house.
Mr.Nwamu and his wife, on different occasions on Friday, had gone to the bank to withdraw an undisclosed amount of money. As the Standards Director, he had been busy on Friday night with editorial duties that kept him till late in the night. He was reported to have left the office a few minutes to midnight and drove himself home that night.
On getting home that night, he probably might have taken his dinner and retired to bed without any premonition that his life and those of his family members were in danger.
When some officials of LEADERSHIP Newspapers visited him in the hospital yesterday afternoon, his head was dressed with bandages after stitches had been done on his broken skull. His wife, who was shot in the head, had stabilised after some bullets lodged in her skull were removed.
Nwamu, who was able to make a call through to the Managing Director of LEADERSHIP Holdings Ltd yesterday afternoon, Mr. Abraham Nda-Isaiah prompted the Chairman of LEADERSHIP Group, Mr. Sam Nda-Isaiah, to organise a team to locate the hospital where Nwamu and his wife were admitted.
Arrangements were promptly made to transfer him and his wife to a government hospital for proper medical attention, while the police said they were intensifying their investigation into the matter.
