Robbers steal 20 Camry cars in Lagos every month – Police



There are strong indications that every month, armed robbers steal  about 20 Toyota  Camry cars on the average from their owners in various parts of Lagos State.

This fact is contained in the anti-crime records made available to our correspondent on Wednesday by the office of the Police Public Relations in n Ikeja, GRA Lagos.

According to the records, last month, about 15 Camry cars were snatched by robbers from their owners. Toyota Camry cars top the lists of car preferred by robbers, even as the police also recovered some of the cars stolen

For instance, on Tuesday, November 27, this year, one Babatunde Ogunsola was trailed by a six-member car snatching gang to his house in Egbeda area of Lagos and disposed of the Camry car belonging to his mother.

According to reliable police sources at Idimu police station, the young man was allegedly stopped, intimidated and harassed the moment he entered his residence at 25, Mufutau street, Egbeda and ordered to hand over the key of the car to the gang members, who were alleged to be fully armed.

Our correspondent further learnt  the suspected robbers drove him in the green Camry car marked FKJ 874 AR away from  his residence to a somewhere at Iyana-Ipaja and  threw him out of the car after battering the hell out of him.

While the police are still battling to fish out the car snatching gang that dealt with the young man, the records further reveal that on October 9, this year, two Camry cars were stolen from their owners. These cars, marked BK 205 BG and CH 308 RSK were snatched from their owners around Owutu in Ikorodu and Man Center in Ikeja areas of Lagos respectively.

On October 23, 27 and 28, the dare-devil armed robbers snatched a Toyota Camry marked PE 869 KRD and another one KU 200 MA from their owners at Sabo and Ogudu areas in Lagos.

They also stole another green Toyota Camry with registration No VV 40 KJA from the owner at Anthony village, Lagos.

Speaking with our correspondent on the issue, Ngozi Braide, Lagos Police Image maker, said that she is at a loss on the reason robbers prefer to steal Camry cars, instead of other brands from their owners.

She, however, said that the command has been able to recover some cars stolen from their owners.

The Lagos police image maker however advised owners of cars to come forward with proof of ownership to claim their vehicle.
