Traffic law: Okada riders lay siege to Lagbuses on Mile 12/Ikorodu road

IN protest against the newly introduced traffic law by the Lagos State government, Okada riders again took to the streets, disrupting activities on the Ikorodu/Mile 12 expressway on Thursday morning.
The  commercial motorcyclists attacked transport buses belonging to the state government and vandalised no fewer than five Lagbus red buses which were on their way to Ketu and Lagos.
The attack was a surprise to most people as it began without warning when commercial transport services were at its peak and many people were busy with their job.
Eyewitnesses said the Okada riders positioned themselves on the road and threw sticks and other missiles to Lagbuses heading towards Ketu and in the process breaking their windows.
The attack forced the drivers of the buses to make quick U-turns and return to Ikorodu while their passengers disembarked  to look for alternative means of getting to their various destinations.
The news of the attack, which filtered into Ikorodu at about 8.00 a.m., left many commuters stranded at Lagbus  busstops and many commercial drivers took advantage of the situation to exploit commuters as a trip to Ketu from Ikorodu suddenly went up to N200 from N100 while Oshodi went up to N250 from N150.
This may just be the beginning of such assaults as the Okada riders said they intend to be laying ambush and carry out surprise attacks on Lagbus buses on the Ikorodu/Mile12 road.
