THE police, on Thursday, said 6,000 policemen will be deployed in
Kano State, to provide security for the by-election into Garko and Gaya
state assembly constituencies tomorrow.
This was disclosed by the Assistant Inspector General of Police in
charge of Zone 1, Mr David Omojuola, at a news conference in Kano.
He said the men would join other security operatives from the
Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Nigerian
Immigration Service and the Customs and Excise, to provide security at
polling stations.
The police boss, therefore, warned politicians against violence and
other forms of lawlessness during the polls, adding that “under no
circumstance will brigandage, rioting or thuggery be allowed in the
course of the election.”
He confirmed that one of the two wings of Bunkure police station was
blown off with explosives by gunmen, adding that the matter was under
investigation.
The police boss also confirmed that supporters of the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP) clashed
at a political rally in Garko Local Government Area on Wednesday.
