Attack on Tribune reporter, senseless, irresponsible - Oyo PDP

laolu harolds

The Oyo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has described as senseless and irresponsible the attack on a reporter with the Nigerian Tribune, Mr Laolu Harolds, by men of the Oyo State government’s demolition squad, saying it was the peak of Senator Abiola Ajimobi’s anti-people actions.
Making the disclosure in a chat with the  Nigerian Tribune yesterday, the party’s chairman, Alhaji Olayinka Taiwo, berated the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) government in the state, for its oppressive and anti-human rights stance, saying its actions were reminiscent of the days of military rule.
“It is saddening that the current Oyo State government could be unleashing terror on the citizens of the state, through its Operation Burst and the demolition squad; it is unspeakable that a government elected to protect the people will be working against their interests—destroying people’s lives and beating innocent people up.
But the height of the shame was the reaction of the government that the security men thought Mr Harolds was a hoodlum. When did hoodlums begin to tamper with government exercise through the use of digital camera? Was the reporter in any way standing in Ajimobi boys’ ways not to destroy as they were wont to do?
“The truth is Senator Ajimobi’s government has lost its place with the people, hence the use of brutality to whip them into cooperation but this will not work. The ACN which prides itself as a progressive party should bury its head in shame.
The attack on journalists and innocent citizens as well as the destruction of people’s dreams and means of livelihoods are credos of dictatorship,” the PDP chairman said.
