Christmas Day murder: Man, 20, remanded in prison

FOR allegedly perpetrating the murder of a 22-year-old man on a Christmas Day, a magistrate’s court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State, on Thursday, ordered that a 20-year-old suspect, identified as Adekola Adelugba, be remanded at Ilesa  Maximum Prison.
Adelugba was alleged to have committed the offence on December 25, 2012 during the Christmas celebration at a carnival organised by the youth of Ekotedo Street, Osogbo, around at 1:00 a.m.
Nigerian Tribune authoritatively gathered that the accused person conspired with others at large to attack their victims with plank on his skull at the thick of the carnival packaged by the youth of the area.
According to the charged sheet by the police prosecutor, Inspector Meret Wilson, the accused was facing a two-count  charge of conspiracy and murder, resulting in unlawful killing of one 22 year old man Johnson Michael, by hitting him with plank on his forehead during the fracas at the carnival celebration.
The police prosecutor informed  the court that the accused person had committed a punishable offence under section 516 and 316 (2) of the Criminal Code cap 34 Voll II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2003.
However, the plea of the accused was not taken on the grounds that the offences committed were capital in nature, just as the court did not permit his defence counsel, Mr Abimbola Ige, to make any submission.
