Former Senate leader, Folarin, quizzed •Houses searched

THE Oyo State Police Command has invited former Senator Teslim Folarin over security reports bordering on plans to cause mayhem and disorder in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.
It was, however, learnt that he was released after he presented himself and was interviewed by a senior police officer.
Nigerian Tribune gathered that the police got some security reports a couple of days ago which bordered on a threat to the peace of Ibadan, with plans to cause violence and create a disorderly environment.
Speaking with the Nigerian Tribune, the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Mr Mbu Joseph Mbu, said that police officers were sent to the senator’s house to invite him to the police headquarters but were told by people they met that he was not at home.
The commissioner added that Senator Folarin later called him to ask why he was being sought and he was told of the need to present himself to clear the air on issues raised against him.
Mr Mbu said the senator was interviewed by an Assistant Commissioner of Police and was released thereafter.
Folarin after his release, however, alleged foul play in the way and manner his houses were searched by the officers who claimed they were with search warrant to conduct thorough searches of his entire house.
In the interview with newsmen, he said he was on his way to Abeokuta to condole with ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo over recent inferno at his Abeokuta Hilltop residence and to later meet a lawyer in Lagos over his brother’s Will when a call came that the police boss wanted to see him over a petition bordering on security.
The ex-Senate leader, who was in company with his wife, Angela; High Chief Lekan Balogun; the incumbent Deputy Senate Whip, Hosea Ayoola Agboola; former deputy governor of the state, Azeem Gbolarumi; chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum, Muraina Ajibola; state PDP chairman, Yinka Taiwo and Tajudeen Abass Alesinloye to the Eleyele police command, said he was stunned that politicians could resort to blackmail just three days into 2013, when 2015 was still far away.
On his alleged romance with Tokyo, Folarin said his relationship with the embattled NURTW boss was just that of an Ibadan brother, stressing that the last two occasions he saw Tokyo were during the burial of Governor Abiola Ajimobi’s mother and the fidau of his late brother, Alhaji Suleman Emiola respectively.
Folarin, who said he was still mourning his late brother, wondered why anybody would link him to NURTW members and violence to disrupt the peace of the state.
“All that happened nevertheless, I salute the courage of the police commissioner and his team of professional officers for the way and manner they handled the matter.
“It shows nobody is too big or above the law of the land. And I must also appeal to our politicians to always take it easy and allow God’s wish to manifest in our plans and aspirations.
Power comes from God alone,” he added.
