IT was a day of mourning for people of Naka, headquarters of Gwer Local
Government Area of Benue State, as a man suspected to be insane murdered
five brothers at the town’s earth dam on Sunday.
Irked by the development, the people of the area also unleashed jungle justice on him.
According
to eyewitnesses, the suspected mad man, one Edwin Jato, popularly known
in the area as Torjor, was said to have been treated at the Psychiatric
Department of the Federal Medical Centre, Makurdi for mental disorder.
The
suspected mad man, according to further information, was said to have
been alright until last Sunday evening when he asked his brothers to
follow him to the dam.
It was further gathered that as soon as they got to the dam, Torjor brought out a cutlass, hacked them to death and fled.
Mr Mike Torkuma, the council secretary said the culprit was later beaten to death by local residents.
Reacting
to the report, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel
Ezeala, confirmed the incident and stated that police were investigating
the report to ascertain the sanity level of the culprit.
He, however, condemned the use of jungle justice by residents on the culprit.
