Man hacks wife to death in Rivers

A man, who allegedly matcheted his wife to death over a disagreement in Ikata community, Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State, is now in the custody of the Rivers State police command.
The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Indabawa, who disclosed this to journalists in Port Harcourt on Wednesday also said that nine suspected cultists had been arrested from the same Ahoada East council area for unleashing terror on a community, during which a man was killed.
According to Indabawa, a man, identified as Udeh Sebastian, following a previous disagreement, matcheted his wife, Abigail Sebastian, to death at about 4.30a.m. on Wednesday.
The police commissioner said Udeh was arrested at Ikata community in Ahoada East Local Government Area of the state, adding that his case had since been taken over by the state Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
On the arrested suspected cultists, the commissioner said one James Okpara was killed in an attack on Ochiyba community, a neighbour community of Ikata, by the suspects, adding that their arrest was affected by the assistance of the men of Joint Task Force (JTF).
The commissioner, however, promised that the improved security situation in the state during the Yuletide would be sustained and made better in the new year.
“It is, therefore, in thisspirit of renewed vigour to stamp out criminality that on the first of January, 2013, the Rivers State police command effectively brought under control an ugly incident that threatened the peace in a community in Ahoada.
“Yesterday at about 1130hours information was received that cult men had invaded and unleashed terror on Ochiyba community in Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State, that they destroyed several properties and in the process, killed one James Okpara.
“Policemen from Ahoada area command, assisted by men of the Joint Task Force (JTF), swiftly mobilised and cordoned off the area. The search that followed produced nine arrests,” he said.
The police chief listed the names of those arrested as follows; Godday Robinson, Nwineke Sunny, Richman Obasi, Wisdom Richard, Agi Emmanuel, Akajiaku Richard, Ogbunike Edward, Godstime Francis and ThankGod Okpara.
