Minister closes 82 substandard medical outfits in Abuja

THE Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Administration said it closed down 82 substandard medical outfits in Abuja in 2012.
The Minister of the FCT, Bala Mohammed, disclosed this after looking into the activities of the Abuja Health and Human Services secretariat on Thursday, a statement by his spokesman, Muhammad Sule, noted.
Mr Sule disclosed that some of the substandard medical outfits were reopened immediately after conditions for reopening were met; while a fine was paid by the owners to serve as deterrent to others.
He said 12 non-medical quacks were also apprehended and handed over to the police.
According to him, three of such cases had been charged to Karu Magistrate Court for prosecution.
While lamenting that the activities of medical quacks had been on the rise due to the increasing influx of people into Abuja, he assured that his administration is on top of the situation.
He urged the general public to be cautious of such outfits as they pose a great health danger to the public.
He enjoined Abuja residents to urgently raise the alarm when such outfits are suspected to be operating.
