Sylvanus Nkiru |
Jerry Okosun, the Imo State Director-General on Youth
and Students Affairs, is still being held by the police in connection
with the kidnap of Sylvanus Nkiru, the Imo State Police Command said on
Friday.
Nkiru, the Special Assistant to Governor Rochas Okorocha on Public Affairs, was kidnapped on December 16, 2012, in Owerri.
Contrary to some reports that Okosun had been released, the Police Public Relations Officer, Vitalis Onugu, told Saturday PUNCH on Friday on the telephone that he was still in police custody.
He said Jerry, a son of the legendary musician, Sunny Okosun, was being interrogated.
“What I know is that as at Wednesday when I was
leaving Owerri, Jerry was still being questioned to determine the level
of his complicity in the kidnapping of Nkiru Sylvanus.
“We cannot, however, confirm to you yet if he is one
of them until the investigation is completed. Once that is done, we will
inform you. He was picked during the preliminary stage of the
investigation because of some implicating text messages linked to him,”
Onugu said.
