The panel set up to investigate allegations of unlawful administration
of virginity test on 10 students in Ogun State, on Tuesday, submitted
its report.
The students were of Ajuwon Senior High School, Ajuwon, Ifo Local Government Area of the state.
The
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the state Ministry of
Education had set up a five-man panel of enquiry to investigate the
allegations and submit its report within two weeks.
A statement
issued on Tuesday in Abeokuta by the Press Officer in the ministry, Mr
Kayode Oduyebo, said the report was submitted to the Commissioner for
Education, Mr Segun Odubela.
The statement quoted the chairman
of the panel, Mr Idowu Adeniji, as saying that the committee obtained
both oral and written evidence from community leaders at Ajuwon,
including students and other members of the public.
According to
Adeniji, the panel ensured that equal opportunities were given to
individuals that appeared before it at the sitting.
He urged the commissioner to carefully study the recommendations in order to forestall future occurrence.
Receiving
the report, which was in four volumes, Odubela thanked members of the
panel for completing the assignment within the stipulated time frame.
He
assured parents, students and other members of the public that were
directly affected that justice would be served and that the final
decision would be announced soon.
It will be recalled that the
principal of the school, Mrs Olufunke Aladeojobi, on December 10, 2012,
allegedly invited a nurse to conduct virginity test on the female
students without the consent of their parents or guardians.
