A 33,000-litre capacity truck carrying petrol, on Wednesday, exploded
in Ibadan, Oyo State, at the mega-station of the Nigerian National
Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) at General Gas area of the metropolis.
No life was lost in the incident that happened while the truck was waiting to discharge its content into the pit of the station.
Although the cause of the explosion could not be ascertained as of
the time of this report, the resulting inferno gutted a part of the
station.
Eyewitnesses told the Nigerian Tribune that on hearing the loud
explosion, fuel attendants and others in the gas station scampered to
safety.
Men from the state fire service had a hectic time putting out the fire that burned for about an hour.
