Police arrest man for killing 3-month-old son

THE Niger state police command has arrested a middle-aged man said to  be a drug addict, over allegation of killing his three-month-old son, after which he buried him at a yet-to-be identified place around Saiki area of  Minna, the state capital.
It was shocking for the residents after the suspect, Bala Mohammed, currently at the police custody, confessed to the crime.
Nigerian Tribune further gathered that Mohammed allegedly overpowered Shamsiya, the mother of the baby, in an ensuing brawl in his one-room apartment, before he took hold of the boy.
It was further leant that the woman rushed to her family house and raised the alarm over the safety of her son, but the suspect had already taken the baby to an unknown destination before the rescue team mobilised to the house.
Further checks revealed that by the time Mohammed returned, he told the people that the boy had “embarked on a journey from where he will not return soon.”
An insider source alleged that the suspect had initially attempted to terminate the pregnancy, but for the insistence of the wife.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Pius Edobor, confirmed the incident, adding that investigations were ongoing.
