The Police Public
Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Sylvester Igbo, a Deputy Superintendent of
police, said two suspects have been apprehended and urged the people to
assist the police in its efforts to track down the perpetrators of the
dastardly act and secure the release of the children
Igbo noted that the
command had commenced investigation to unravel the secret behind the
kidnappings and appealed to people of the community to resolve their
differences amicably to sustain the prevailing peace in the area.
Meanwhile, women in
the community, numbering about 100, have staged peaceful protest in the
area, calling for the intervention of government and security agencies
to secure the release of the children.
The women, who were
chanting songs, marched through the affected villages from where they
proceeded to the Divisional Police station in the council.
One of the women,
Madam Josephine Ajaka said they were worried over what they described as
strange development in the area and expressed fear that the children
could have been abducted for ritual purpose as their captors had not
made any demand for ransom.
While renewing the
call on the police to help them, some elders in the community, including
Mr Ivoke Okonkwo from Ovunta Amagu village and Mr Kama Igwe, who
claimed that the number had risen to eleven, said the people have
resorted to prayers to seek divine intervention over the matter.
