Two killed, vehicles, houses burnt as fuel tanker explodes in Rivers •11 killed, 47 injured in 10 auto crashes

A fully loaded petrol tanker, a Mack truck with registration number: XS 942 KJA, fell, spilled content and burst into flames on the road at Mbiama junction, Ahoada bypass in Rivers State at about 8:15 a.m. on Friday.
A man and a woman were killed while eight other persons were injured.
Policemen, firemen, officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and other security operatives were involved in the rescue.
The remains of the dead, according to the FRSC, were collected by their relations for burial, while the injured were taken to Okolobiri General Hospital in Bayelsa State.
“There was no scooping of fuel, but the incident happened where people were carrying out their businesses, hence the high casualty figure. 11 vehicles, four motorcycles, 13 shops, 23 makeshift houses, two churches and a mosque were razed,” the FRSC said on its Facebook wall.
A landlord of one of the burnt houses, Mr. Brown Egbo, told newsmen that the tanker driver lost control owing to the narrow road.
“Suddenly, fire erupted; there was no scooping of fuel by anybody. The value of my property will run into millions of naira. I’ve lost all what I had laboured for in my life,” Egbo cried.
Another victim, Enoch Emmanuel, who lost his belongings in the fire outbreak in his one room apartment, regretted that he could not rescue his personal effects before the fire engulfed the area.
Speaking to newsmen, the Assistant Corps Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission, Ahoada Local Government Area of the state, Mr. Theophilus Egwim, blamed the accident on recklessness and obstruction on the part of motorists.
Official statistics from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in the last one week has shown that as of Friday afternoon, no fewer than 11 persons were killed and 47 others injured in 10  road crashes, including the aforementioned, across the country.
Details of the other accidents, as released by the FRSC on its Facebook wall, are as follows:
Three killed, five injured
THREE people were killed while five others were injured when an Acura MDX with registration number: LSR548AW, lost control and somersaulted around 11:30 a.m. on the Ore-Lagos Road on Thursday, three kilometres from Ore. The victims were taken to the General Hospital and Opeyemi Hospital, in Ore.
One killed, six injured on Okuta-Ilesa Baruba Road
One person died and six others were injured when a Nissan Kingcab bus marked: AA 995 MSA, had a tyre burst on Okuta-Ilesa Baruba road around 2.40 p.m. on Monday. Seven persons were involved in the accident. The injured were taken to the Cottage Hospital at Ilesa Baruba.
Two injured as three vehicles crash on Ilesa-Akure Road
In another incident, two persons were injured out of the five persons involved when three vehicles, a Mazda bus with registration number: XA 679 MUE; a Honda Prelude, marked: AP 824 MNA and a Toyota Hiace bus (registration number not available as the driver refused to stop after the incident), crashed at about 12 kilometres after Ipetu Ijesa around 4.00 p.m. on Monday. No death was recorded. The injured were taken to the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital (OAUTH), Ilesa.
Three killed, 12 injured as trailer crashes
An IVECO Truck registered: AA 206 MSW, conveying 20 men crashed at about 1:45 p.m. at Macks Farm on Zariagi-Okenne Road, in Kogi State, killing three people and injuring 12 others. The victims were taken to the Federal Medical Centre and Specialist Hospital, both in Lokoja, the state capital.
One killed, five injured on Lokoja-Koton Karfe Road
Four vehicles, a Toyota Avalon with registration number: KWL 876 AC; a Honda Accord marked: HF 743 ABC, a KIA jeep marked: KW 751 AK, and Wagon Shavon, RSH 743 AC, were involved in a crash at Ohono on Koton Karfe-Lokoja Road, resulting in the death of one female, with five men sustaining injuries. Twelve persons (11 men and one woman) were involved in the crash. The victims were taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja.
Six injured in a bus crash on Lokoja-Abuja Road
All the six passengers of a Nissan bus with registration number: FST 150 XC, were injured when the bus crashed at Iri on Abaji-Gwagwalada Road at 9:36 a.m. on Monday. The four injured men, one woman and a male child were taken to Kwali General Hospital.
Another motorcycle /truck crash result in death
ONE person died when a Mack truck XA 831 NEG hit an unregistered motorcycle at Gegu on Koton Karfe -Abaji Road around 7:20 p.m. last Sunday. There were no injuries in the accident that involved three persons. The corpse was handed over to the family for burial.
One killed on Daura-Kano Road
ONE person was killed while two others were injured in a crash that occurred on Daura-Kano Road at about 5.00 p.m. last Sunday when a Nissan bus with registration number: XA 367 DTS, hit an unregistered motorcycle. Three persons were involved. The victims were taken to the hospital.
One person was injured as a Nissan jeep crashed at about 3.50 p.m. last Sunday on Abuja-Abaji Road.
The crash of the Nissan jeep with registration number: BZ 929 RBC, involved five persons – a man, two ladies and two female children - and left a lady injured. The injured was taken to the General Hospital, Kwali.
FRSC Official: Killer driver arraigned
Mr Emenka Uchendu, driver of the luxury bus with registration number: XC 373 NEN, which caused the death of an official of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Olatunji Olaleye, an Assistant Route Commander, a staff member of the Ijebu Ode, Ogun State command, was arraigned before the Odogbolu Chief Magistrate’s Court on Monday. The court was presided over by Chief Magistrate (Mrs) O.O. Akanni-Amosun.
A charge of reckless driving that caused the death of the official and damage to vehicles was read to him. His lawyer applied for bail, which was granted in the sum of N 100,000 and two sureties, one of whom must be the luxury bus company’s manager, and a relative of the driver with landed property in Ijebu-Ode and environs, who must have paid tax in full to the state.
The accused was to be reminded in prison custody until the bail conditions are met.
The case file was referred to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Ministry of Justice, Ogun State, for advice, while the case was adjourned to 13 March.
94 convicted, one jailed for traffic offences
NINETY-FOUR drivers were convicted, while one was remanded in prison for various traffic offences by a mobile court presided over by Senior Magistrate Kilsi Giadom in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
One Chikaodili Anyanwu was remanded in prison custody for dangerous driving, route violation, driving without driving licence and contempt of court.
