Woman armed robber killed in Zamfara

A notorious woman armed robber (names withheld), has been killed by members of a vigilance group at Shamushalle village, Birnin Magaji Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

An eyewitness told the Nigerian Tribune that the robber, who had led series of attacks on the village and the neighbourhood, met her waterloo when  vigilance group stormed her residence.

The village was reported to be a hideout of criminals, as it is surrounded by a forest, which is usually used by the criminals.

“Most often, the armed robbers will rob people of their belongings and run towards the bush,” a source added.

Findings revealed that the vigilance group stormed her residence on Monday morning and did not succeed in their mission until around 9.00 a.m when it was evident that the woman robber had been killed.

According to a source who pleaded for anonymity, the vigilance group ransacked her house and discovered about 13 AK-47 rifles. The woman, who was well known in the village, was also alleged to be renting out the rifles to armed robbers.

With the death of the suspect, crime activities in the area, according to sources, would be drastically reduced, as she was reported to have carried out series of armed attacks in the area.

When contacted, the police spokesperson, DSP Hassan Talba, confirmed the incident and added that the police were not aware of the number of rifles found in the house.

He said the police had taken measures to provide adequate security to villages and towns close to forests, as well as borders.
