Five Lagos-bound passengers abducted in Edo

A new twist has been introduced into kidnapping in Edo State with the abduction on Wednesday morning of five Lagos-bound passengers by gunmen on the Lagos-Benin Expressway.
The passengers were said to be among occupants of a Sienna space wagon bus, traveling from Warri, Delta State, to Lagos.
The driver of the bus, who along with a passenger, was allowed to relay the kidnap, said the kidnappers barricaded the Benin-Lagos Expressway at Ogbemudia farms with a truck, forcing him to slow down on sighting the barricade.
He added that moments later, gun-trotting men emerged from the bush and took the passengers hostage.
One of the victims, who lives in Lagos, was said to be returning to Lagos after attending the naming ceremony of his new-born baby in Warri when he was abducted along with other passengers.
The father of the victim, told journalists in Benin that the kidnappers had made contact with him and demanded N3 million ransom to set his son free.
He pleaded with the kidnappers to release his son unhurt, saying that the family could not raise the amount the kidnappers demanded for.
When contacted, the state acting Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Awhara Ejiroro, said he was yet to be briefed on the incident.
