55yr-old remanded in prison custody over rape of minor

A minor drew pity from everyone present at the Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court 1, Ibadan, Oyo State on Wednesday, when she was led to appear before the presiding Chief Magistrate, Mrs Fatima Badurudeen, having been a victim of rape.
The 13-year-old, who looked like an eight-year-old, was reported to have been raped by one 55-year-old Ibrahim Lamidi on Thursday, March 14, at about 12 p.m. at Ade-Oyo road, Filade area of Ibadan.
The charge sheet number MI/ 359C/2013, read in part: “That you Ibrahim Lamidi ‘m’ on March 14, 2013 at about 12 p.m. at Ade-Oyo road, Filade area of Ibadan, in the Ibadan Magisterial district did have carnal knowledge of one (name withheld) ‘f’ age 13 without her consent, thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 358 of the Criminal Code Cap. 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oo State, Nigeria 2000.
The plea of the accused was, however, not taken because the case is a capital offence.
The presiding magistrate, thereafter, remanded the defendant in prison custody pending the next hearing on the matter on April 26.
