Faulty X-ray machine: UCH denies high death rate

Authorities of the University College Hospital, Ibadan have denied the reported increase in death rate at the hospital as a result of the breakdown of X-Ray machines at the Central X-ray Unit.
A national newspaper (not The PUNCH) reported earlier in the week that two people died with scores on death row as a result of the dysfunctional machines.
However, officials of the teaching hospital denied the allegation on Friday, saying that the report was false and illogical.
The Chief Information Officer, UCH, Mr. Ayodeji Bobade, said, “One cannot say that patients are dying as a result of dysfunctional X-ray machines in the hospital. Some of the machines are faulty but we have another one that we are using at the outpatient unit.”
However, attempts made to speak with the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee and Director, Clinical Services, Research and Training, Dr. Jesse Otegbayo, proved abortive as he refused to grant an interview.
An official of the hospital who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said, “It is true that the dysfunctional machines are putting us under intense pressure. We have lots of patients requiring X-ray services but we have to direct them to the outpatient X-ray section.”
