IGP inspects renovation of Police College, shuns journalists



The Inspector General of Police, Mr.  Muhammed Abubakar on yesterday   visited the Ikeja Police College, to check out the ongoing repairs being carried out at the college.
Expectant journalist who had hoped to be taken around the worksite were however disappointed as the police authority prevented them from joining the IG’s inspection team.
The journalists were further aggrieved after the inspection as the Abubakar shunned the journalists who had wanted to have his reaction to the decay and renovation at the college
As early as 1:30pm, in the afternoon, anxious journalists had reached the Police College in anticipation of the first official visit of the I G to the college, since the media searchlight was beamed on the college.
The journalists had to wait till about 5 O’clock in the evening, before the police boss finally arrived and inspected the renovation work.
An angry journalist, while walking out of the police college said: "We have come here to waste the whole day and the man did not even talk to us after waiting for him for hours.”
Another press man said: "We were invited here! We did not come on our own. The IG should have at least commented on the rehabilitation "
it was later heard that the IG had categorically ordered that no journalist should be allowed to know he was coming or to enter the Police College.
