Killing of abducted septugenarian: Suspect’s house set ablaze in Delta

IRKED by the recent abduction and subsequent killing of a septuagenarian in Ogwashi-Uku and its environ in Delta State, some youths, on Monday, razed down a building housing one of the alleged kidnappers.

The suspect, now at large, was believed to have been recognised by the woman, Madam Regina Obidainty 71, on the day of the kidnap before she was shot dead in their hideout in Edo State after her family had allegedly paid N2 million ransom.

Her corpse was said to have been recovered at Igbogiri forest in Edo State.

A member of the gang, was, however, arrested by the police while having his bath at Issele-Mkpitime near Issele-uku Delta State and another member was shot dead during a gun duel with the police in Benin City.

The Nigerian Tribune gathered that news of the woman’s death filtered into Ogwashi-uku town at the weekend, following which aggrieved youths on Monday allegedly set the suspect’s family house at Ogbe-Ofu in the town on fire.

Police in Ogwashi-uku however, told the Nigerian Tribune that no eye witness at the scene of the fire could confirm whether the house was set ablaze by anybody as “people said it was a fire outbreak.”

According to report the septuagenarian woman who was kidnapped on March 3, 2013, was living close to the suspect.

The kidnappers were said the have asked for N6 million after the family had allegedly paid the N2 million to seek her release.

Confirming the story, when contacted, the State Police Public Relation Officer, ASP Famous Ajieh, said the house was as a result of fire outbreak and not due  to youths’ protest.
