Lone accident causes traffic gridlock on Oyo-Ogbomoso road

Traffic on Oyo-Ogbomoso road was brought to a total standstill at Baba Ibeji village on Wednesday as a result of an obstruction by a truck loaded with Malta Guinness drink which emptied its contents on the road.
The gridlock, which began from Durbar area in Oyo town, stretched towards Ogbomoso, resulting in  non-movement of articulated vehicles which were travelling to different parts of the North.
Mr Mohammed Indabawa, the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, who was on his way to Ogbomoso on a tour was also affected by the gridlock.
Indabawa and officers and men who were in his convoy had to stop to assist in clearing the broken bottles which strewn the road, while a towing vehicle was seen trying to remove the truck from the road to allow free flow of traffic.
Many of the trailer drivers who spoke with the Nigerian Tribune said that they had been on a spot since Monday due to the  accident.
Many of them were seen trekking long distance to look for food to eat while others resorted to eating unripe fruits from trees nearby.
It eventually took the police commissioner’s convoy about one and half hours before  it could get out of the gridlock which eased after his intervention.
Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC) officials and policemen were at the scene to ensure quick restoration of traffic flow when the Nigerian Tribune was leaving the scene.
While reacting to the traffic situation, the Oyo State sector commander of the FRSC, Mr Godwin Ogagaoghene, however, said that the lone accident occurred at about 8.35a.m. on Tuesday, saying that his men and policemen from Atiba Division jointly worked to restore sanity to the road.
The sector commander added that though there were two men in the truck, no death or injury was recorded.
