Navy destroys 270 drums of fake diesel in Warri

Following the discovery of local depots and the arrest of illegal oil bunkerers in Warri on Thursday, the Nigerian Navy has destroyed about 270 plastic drums of locally-made diesel at the dump site in Effurun, Warri, Delta State.
The destruction of the product, which was conveyed into the dump site in four trucks, lasted for about three hours.
The drums were seized from suspected illegal oil bunkers at two locations in Warri early Thursday.
The locations were the Oil and Gas Free Trade Zone, otherwise called Trailer Park, beside National Ports Authority (NPA) and Sand Beach, at the waterside of Ugbangue in Warri.
While the exercise lasted, the site was cordoned off by the Nigerian Navy Mobile Patrol Team. Firefighters were also put on the alert to forestall any eventuality.
Commanding Officer, Nigerian Navy, Warri Naval Base, Commodore Mohammed Garba, who coordinated the destruction of the contraband, told journalists that the exercise was in line with the mandate of the Joint Task Force, codenamed “Operation Polo Shield.”
The naval chief said that 30 of the 70 suspects arrested on Thursday were found culpable, even as investigations continued to know the source of the illegal business.
