SFU arrests fake doctor over attempt to dupe Canadian government



The Special Fraud Unit (SFU), Milverton, Ikoyi, Lagos State, has arrested two suspected fraudsters for trying to pull the wool over the eyes of the Canadian government and collect health insurance. One of them has been discovered to be a fake medical doctor.

The suspects have been identified as Ibukun Ojo and Steve Olusoji Fakolujo.

According to detectives, Ibukun Ojo, a quack medical practitioner, has been parading himself as a qualified medical doctor and forging documents for Nigerians living overseas to carry out criminal activities.

The SFU spokes person, DSP, Ngozi Isintime-Agu, explained that sometimes in March 16, 2013, a petition was received from the Canadian High Commission, alleging that a case of fraud had been perpetrated against its government.
The petition was against Mount Zion Clinic/Hospital, located at No. 2, Mukandasi Street, Oja-Oke, Oshodi, Lagos State. 

The petitioner stated that the first suspect, Steve Olusoji Fakolujo, a Nigerian, resident in Canada, came to Nigeria sometime in May 2012 and approached the suspect, one Ibukun Ojo who had been parading himself as a qualified medical doctor, to assist him procure some forged medical bills which would enable him claim health insurance from Canadian Government.

Isintume Agu added: “The suspect obliged him and forged some documents, which some are, medical professional and consultation charges, drugs and medications, ambulance fees, accommodation and feeding and other miscellaneous expenses.  All these came down to N89, 989,742.46. Steve travelled back to Canada and presented the forged documents for claim. The suspect, Ojo Ibukun was later arrested and he has made useful confessions to the Police.”

According to Ojo, he is a 50 years old man, from Arigidi Akoko in Ondo State.

 He revealed that he was a medical student drop-out who practices medicine and runs a one-man clinic/hospital with the name Mount Zion Clinic located at 2, Mukandasi Street, Oja-Oke, Mafoluku, Oshodi, Lagos and has been in practice for the past five years. 

He further confessed to the alleged crime and admitted forging all the medical documents, including the medical summary report on Steve Olusoji Fakolujo with Claim No. 216316,  for a paltry sum of N1, 500.00, with the aid of his unregistered hospital letter headed paper and payment receipt.

“His so called hospital was visited and we discovered that following, four dirty beds for admitting patients, a duty small room used as an operating theatre, some small cards and patient’s history files, two stethoscopes and some other funny hospital equipment. Investigation is still on-going. The suspect will be charged to court soonest,” said Isintume Agu.
