Gunmen kill SSS officer in Borno •As ritualists kill poly student

GUNMEN suspected to be members of the Boko Haram sect on Friday evening shot and killed a security official suspected to be an official of the Department of State Security Services (SSS) in Ajilari/Gomari airport ward of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

This brought to four the number of people killed in the area during the week, including a general manager of a filling station, even as one person was reportedly kidnapped in the same area.

Sunday Tribune gathered that the gunmen who came by foot in flowing gowns (Baban Riga) with an AK47 rifles hidden inside their clothes, ambushed the house of the security officer and shot him dead before they fled the scene of the incident.

A neighbour and resident, who did not want his name in print for security reasons, told Sunday Tribune that the gunmen laid ambush for the security official at about 7:22 p.m.

He said: “We were sitting at the frontage of our house around 7:22 p.m when we heard gunshots. We immediately ran into our house for safety, and just this morning, we learnt it was an SSS officer that was shot dead,” he stated.

Another reliable source said that “after the gunmen shot and killed the SSS man, the men of the JTF arrived at the scene and took his body to an undisclosed morgue in one of the hospitals in the metropolis”.

Due to lack of GSM services for the past 10 days in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states, which are under emergency rule, the spokesman of the JTF, Lieutenant  Colonel Sagir Musa and the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Gideon Jubrin could not be reached for confirmation.

Meanwhile, suspected ritualists also murdered a 30-year-old student, Mallam Ibrahim Ahmad Jajiri of Abdu Gusau Polytechnic, Talatan Mafara in Zamfara State.

The gruesome murder of the Higher National Diploma (HND) Business Administration student occurred on Friday morning, when his roommates discovered his corpse as they entered their room to wake him up for subr morning prayers.

Narrating the incident to Sunday Tribune, one of the deceased’s brothers, Jamilu Ahmad, disclosed that his roommates discovered that the skull, left eye as well as some teeth had been removed.

According to him, “some friends of the deceased came to his room on that fateful day and they were with him till   around 12 midnight before they departed to their respective quarters.

“As soon as they left, his roommates who were complaining of heat told my late brother that they were going to sleep outside. However, he told them that he did not mind the heat and would remain inside the room. Unknown to him, that night would be his last on earth.”

Jamilu who described his late brother as gentle said he spoke with the deceased on phone on Thursday night around 11 p.m, and he told him he was going to write his last paper on Sunday (today) and asked him to pray for him.

The roommates, we learnt were invited to the Talatan Mafara police station but were discharged as there was no evidence linking them to the murder.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Lawal Abdullahi confirmed the incident.

The deceased had since been buried according to Islamic rites at the Tsunami cemetery in Gusau area of the state capital.
