L Abai of the State High Court, Aba, Abia State
on May 22, 2013 convicted and sentenced one Oko Ogburu Urum to three years imprisonment
for stealing.
Urum
was arraigned on May 14, 2009 by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission
on charges bordering on stealing. He was alleged to have fraudulently
converted the sum of thirty five thousand pounds, property of the United Kingdom-
based Celine Green and Ladi Madawaki. The duo allegedly sent the money to the
convict to source for used goods (tokunbo), market them in Aba and return the proceeds to them. But the
deal went awry as the convict converted the money to his use.
After
diligent prosecution, he was found guilty and convicted accordingly.
