Militants kill 2 relatives of Dickson’s aide in Bayelsa

Again, a militant group struck at the coastal community of Ikuromogbene in the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, killing two persons identified as relatives of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Higher Education, Dr Godswill Ziriki.
The incident occurred at about 1.00 a.m. on Wednesday at the community waterfront. Sources told newsmen that victims met their untimely death when they, with others, tried to scare away some intruders suspected to be pirates from stealing a speed boat at the community waterfront.
It was learnt the deceased and other community youths were at a wake keep some distance away from the waterfront when they noticed an unusual movement around the speedboat.
They were said to have raised the alarm and hauling stones at the intruders, an action which allegedly angered the gunmen who opened fire on the youths, killing two in the process.The gunmen reportedly fled the scene without accomplishing their mission.
Meanwhile,  the Joint Military Task Force (JTF), on Tuesday, declared the waterways and creeks of Bayelsa and Delta states as new hubs of criminal activities in the Niger Delta.
According to the report, the gangs of kidnappers in the South-South and other parts of the country use coastal communities of Bayelsa and Delta states as a hub of illegal oil theft and hideout for kidnapped victims and ransom demands.
Media Coordinator of the Joint Military Task Force, Lt.Col. Onyenma Nwachukwu, said though the renewed security action of the task force had recoded over 498 arrest oil thieves, seizure of 18 vessels, 26 barges, 545 assorted boats and 748 illegal crude distillation camps, saying the incidents of illegal crude distillation and daring incursions by oil thieves were prevalent in Delta, Bayelsa and Rivers states.
 While the JTF identified communities such as the Akassa, Igbematoru, Tebidaba, Sagana and Kola/Obieku in Rivers and Bayelsa State for their notorious status in illegal oil theft, the task force declared Ukubie,Lorbia 1 and Lorbia 2, Ekeni and Ezetu communities of Southern Ijaw Area of Bayelsa as a new hideout that had hosted kidnappers from all parts of the country.
