More fake varsities sealed off in Lagos

The on-going nationwide raid of illegal university certificate-awarding institutions in the country continued on Thursday, with the Nigeria Universities Commission (NUC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences (ICPC) sealing off three more of such institutions in Lagos.
The affected schools were a distant learning centre, located at Shomolu, claimed to be affiliated with the University of Ibadan (UI), Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, Ijanikin, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Osun State and The Polytechnic, Ibadan, where the managing consultant and three others were arrested.
The second institution was the Ojuelegba campus of Ecole Superieure de Management Universite (ESM), Benin Republic, which operates under the banner of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM), where two members of staff the institution were arrested.
Another school was located on the premises of the Federal College of Education, Technical, with the name Hallmark University which also operates with the University of Winneba, Ghana, where one of the lecturers was arrested.
The marketer of another university located at Idi Araba, University of Accountancy was also arrested at Jibowu.
Speaking with the provost, FCE, who claimed to have inherited one of the illegal schools from his successor, moves were already being made by the college to evacuate the illegal school from its premises and “would be leaving by June when their rent fee expires.”
According to one of the ICPC officials, eight arrests were made and the raid will continue till saturday.
