Police arrest 168 kidnappers, soldier in Delta

DELTA police command has arrested 168 suspected kidnappers and armed robbers in the state.
Out of this number,  29 died as a result of  fatal gun shots.
It was gathered that 36 citizens, including a retired Major-General were rescued, while 59  arms and 311 ammunitions were recovered.
According to the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Ikechukwu Aduba, who disclosed this while parading suspects in Asaba, the state capital, the command successfully demolished five operational bases  located in Orogun, Ozoro, Kokori and Warri and cells of kidnappers across the state, including those belonging to a kingpin, Kelvin Oniarah and that of his deputy at Kokori.
Mr Aduba said security agents, including prisons officials abducted by the hoodlums, were slain in cold blood at their den, but added that the command was closing in on the kingpin.
Highlight of the parade was the arrest of CPL Anthony Okolugbo of 34 Artillery Brigade, Obiuze in Imo State, for gun running along three other.
“The suspects were arrested in a hotel in Asaba and two prohibited pump-action guns were recovered from them.
Also, three suspected robbers who attacked a microfinance bank  at Otor-Iyede in Isoko axis were shot dead by the police boss.
“Detectives stormed the scene and engaged the hoodlums in a gun duel, during which three suffered fatal gunshot injuries, while others escaped,” said the police.
In another development, three suspects– Blessing Akpode, Loveth Olisenokwu and Good Akporeli, were arrested in Asaba for attempting to kidnap the police command’s catholic chaplain, Rev. Fr. (ASP) Pius Onwuegbuzia and items recovered from them included photographs with symbol of cultists.
