A couple has
been plunged into mourning following the murder of their seven days old son by
suspected armed robbers, at the Alagbando area of Lagos State.
The couple
were said to have been trying to have a baby for over 10 years before God
finally answered their prayers and blessed them with the baby.
The couple
who is said to be very rich, decided to have a big christening ceremony party.
Few hours
after the party, the five gun men stormed into their home, angrily flung the
baby against a wall and bolted. The mother of the child was said to have
promptly fainted.
The
confession of the incident was later made by a gang member of the robbery gang,
identified as Seun Waheed, after Special Ant-Robbery Squad had an encounter
with them at the Iyano-Ipaja area of the state, weeks after they killed the
baby.
Waheed
claimed to have been the person who actually flung the baby against the wall,
explaining that the baby’s mother was shaking too much while trying to hand
over jewelry and money to them, thus wasting the gang’s valuable time.
According to
Waheed, he and his gang members attended the naming ceremony uninvited. They
had eaten and wine until nightfall. It was at the party that the D-Jay mentioned
that the grand party was because the couple had been searching for baby for
almost 10 years.
After the
gang left the party, they regrouped and went back to the home of the couple.
They were
able to gain entrance into the compound by calling over the gate of the
compound to the security guards that they had come to collect the canopies they
rented out to the couple.
Immediately
the guards opened the gate, they were confronted with five men armed to the
teeth.
The gang was
said to have gone into the master’s bedroom first, where they robbed the
husband, and then ordered the man to take them to his wife’s room.
The woman
was said to have already brought out her jewelry and money to hand over to
them, but she was shaking too much in fright.
Angry Waheed
had picked the sleeping baby and flung him against the wall. He told policemen that he believed his action
was mostly due to the fact that he was already drunk.
After the
gang’s confrontation with policemen at Iyano-Ipaja area, three among the gang
members were arrested, while police are still hunting for the fleeing two.
