SSS operatives kill suspected kidnap kingpin in Port Harcourt

A suspected kidnapper met his death on Friday when he tried to engage armed security men inside a United Bank for Africa (UBA) branch in Mile One area of Port Harcourt.

The operation carried out by men of the State Security Service (SSS), also led to the arrest of two accomplices of the deceased suspect, who was said to have been involved in a number of high profile kidnap cases in the state.

Sunday Tribune gathered that the operation followed an intelligence tip-off, which indicated that the suspects were going to collect ransom money from an account in the bank.

The situation got out of hands, when the group suspected it was being trailed by security operatives to the bank and the ringleader, attempted to wrest a gun out of the hand of one of the operatives of the SSS, but got shot in the process.

The other two suspects, on seeing the fate that befell their comrade in crime, tried to escape through the back door, but were subdued by the combined team of security operatives present at the scene of the incident. They were arrested and taken to the state headquarters of the Department of State Service.

The Rivers Director of SSS, Olusegun Agbaje, while reacting to the incident, said: “There was an incident at UBA, Emenike Junction, Ikwerre Road, Port Harcourt. We are investigating it.”

Agbaje, however, declined to comment on the killed and arrested kidnappers, as well as nor give the detail of the latest kidnap and ransom which the suspects wanted to pick.
