Accountant, 27, arrested for impersonating Uduaghan •Dupes victims of N5m

NEMESIS has caught up with a 27-year-old accountant, who impersonated the Delta State govenor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, duping paeople of over N5 million.
The impersonator, Philip Urieh, an indigene of Uzere, in Isoko South Local Government Area of the state and an OND accountancy holder  from the Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, was arrested by the State Security Services, which also paraded him in Asaba, on Thursday.
According to the state director of the service, Mrs Florence Ikanone, the suspect opened a facebook account with the name and picture of Governor Uduaghan, through which  he received and responded to messages as the chief executive of the state.
Urieh was alleged to have hired people to collect various sums of money with the believe that the governor was to make them commissioners.
Ikanone explained that the suspect had defrauded one Felix  from Agbor of the sum of N1.2 million on the promise of making him to sponsor beauty pageant.
“Besides, the same Felix had  paid N600,000 for billboards, praising the governor; N480,000 to be given to Chief of Staff; N540,000 for repairs of a Kia salon car belonging to subject; and he was equally instructed to pay N500,000 to be given to the Speaker of the state assembly to ease his screening as a commissionership candidate to the suspect.
“Another victim, Alex (other names withheld) lost N262,000 to erection of billboard; N310,000 to air activities of Actors Guild on Channels Television and N500,000 to settle to the Speaker of the state assembly.
“Jerry (surname withheld) lost N200,000 for production of jingles to aid his chairmanship campaign in Isoko South LGA; and he was to pay N500,000 for clearance of his candidature as a commissioner in the state,” she added.
The SSS boss used the medium to advise highly placed persons in the society to be careful on the use of social media, as modern technology could equally be used by criminals to exploit the system for negative and dubious intentions.
