Hezbollah weapons: Sierra Leone to authenticate suspects citizenship claims

THE Republic of Sierra Leone has commenced investigation aimed at authenticating the claim of citizenship by a suspect arrested in connection with Hezbollah weapons discovered in Kano.
The government has also distanced itself from any form of violence against Nigeria after a private residence that housed the cache of weapons of mass destruction was revealed to belong to a Sierra Leonean.
Acting Lebanese Consul in Kano, Khallel Musliman, had reportedly named  Abdu Hassan Tahir,  as the owner of the property and already in custody over his role in the arm deal.
He had made the disclosure to differentiate the Sierra Leonean suspect from Taheer Fadhlala, owner of Taheer Guest Palace, Kano.
The property is located at Gaya Road within Bompai GRA.
The Lebanese consul reportedly produced a copy of business permit granted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs in 2004, to the suspect to conduct business activity in Nigeria.
A copy of the business permit with reference number MIA/B 24332/T/403 and signed by Alhassan M.Fawu for the Director, Citizenship and Business for the Minister of Internal Affairs, Abuja, in 2004, allowed the suspect to establish a business venture in Kano.
The Sierra Leonean suspect obtained the business permit with a registered company, Amfat Nigeria Limited, which specialised in manufacturing of plastic products, general merchants, importer and exporter.
Confirming the ongoing  investigation, Sierra Leone High Commission, in a statement, reaffirmed condemnation of violence by the country and prayed for peace to continue to reign in Nigeria.
The high commissioner, however, failed to state what her country would do if the suspect is confirmed as her citizen.
