Man allegedly poisons, kills son

AN 18-year-old panel beater, John Terver, was on Tuesday, arraigned before the Magistrates’ Court in Makurdi, Benue State capital, for allegedly poisoning his three-year-old son, Aondoyima.
The man, who hails from Zaki Biam in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State, was said to have given his son a poisonous substance which led to his death.
At the mention of the case  on Tuesday, the police prosecutor, Patrick Sunday, informed the court that one Samuel Tihi, had on May 30, reported to the police in Zaki Biam, that the accused gave to the deceased a poisonous substance suspected to be local insecticide (wiper), which resulted to his demise.
Following the police’s investigation, the accused was arrested and charged to court for culpable homicide.
When the case came up for mention, no plea was taken for want of jurisdiction and prosecution said investigation was still in progress and asked for another date.
Ruling, the trial magistrate, Mrs Lillian Tsumba, ordered that the accused be remanded at the Makurdi Federal Prison and adjourned the case till July 23.
