Obi donates N220m to churches in two days

Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi

Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State has within the last two days handed over cheques totalling N220m to churches in the state to run their schools and hospitals.
The governor on Wednesday gave a cheque of N10m to the Anglican Bisho0p of Amichi, Rt. Rev. Ephraim Ikeakor, for the renovation of the Amichi Diocesan Hospital.
Ikeakor, who described Obi as a blessing not just to Anambra State but to humanity at large, prayed to God to raise more people like him for the edification of society.
The governor had on Tuesday toured some missionary institutions, where he gave out cheques totaling N120m.
On Wednesday, he continued with the visits and had given out N100m before cutting short the visits to attend to students of the Anambra State University that were protesting the killing of a female student at Igbariam campus.
Wednesday’s tour took him to St. Raphael’s School Abatete, where he presented a cheque of N10m to them; Premier Secondary School, Unubi where he presented a cheque of N10m; Mother of Mercy Secondary School, Azigbo, where he promised to support the school; Our Lady of Lourdes  Hospital, Ihiala, where he presented a cheque totaling N60m for various projects.
In all the institutions the Governor visited, especially schools returned to the missionaries, he lamented the level of dilapidation, regretted and apologised for the takeover of the schools and pledged government’s continued support to them until they were restored to their original glory.
The governor explained that he was supporting the mission institutions because they served the people of Anambra State.
At Mother of Mercy Girls Secondary School, Azigbo, Bishop Hilary Okeke of Catholic Diocese of Nnewi commended Obi for his support for the education, health and other sectors.
