Police begin probe of WAMCO official’s death

POLICE in Makurdi, Benue State capital, have begun investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of the state head of West Africa Milk Company (WAMCO), Mr Razaq Lukman.
Nigerian Tribune learnt that the deceased, who left his house last Saturday evening, was found dead in his flat at Modern Market area of the town on Tuesday.
It was gathered that a neighbour, who saw him last on Saturday, could not trace him until his car was found in the town about two kilometres to the house, which raised suspicion.
According to the neighbour who spoke to the Nigerian Tribune on condition of anonymity, “we last saw him  Saturday evening, when he was driving out in his car,” adding, “the situation remained like that till Tuesday, when a co-neighbour sighted his car  a few kilometres to the house and alerted us. This prompted the invitation of the policemen, who came and opened his flat.
“Ironically, on opening his flat, they (police) found his corpse on the chair, with his legs and hands tied and a substance like acid in his mouth,” the neighbour said.
When the Nigerian Tribune visited the office opposite Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) secretariat, the staff declined comment, but the state head of CFAO, Mr Gbenga Ashipa, who spoke to the Nigerian Tribune said  they received the sad news on Tuesday.
Ashipa described the deceased as a gentleman to the core, who could not hurt a fly, adding, “I was transferred to this state in January, this year and we had been very close; he was a man of short words, a gentleman to a core.”
The Police Public Relation Officers (PPRO), DSP Daniel Ezeala, who confirmed the report, told the Nigerian Tribune that  the deceased’s neighbours had made a clarion call to ‘D’ Division of the command about their suspicions in the neighbourhood.
The deceased was said to have been transferred to Makurdi last year from Osogbo,  Osun state, while his wife and five children were resident in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
