POLICE SHOOT FOUR STUDENTS IN LAGOS




Four students of Michael Otedola College of Primary Education were on Monday afternoon reportedly shot during a protest by student of the institution.

It was gathered that in a bid to disperse the protesting students, the policemen who was allegedly invited by the Provostof the institution shot sporadically into the air to disperse the protesting students.

Eye witnesses’ account revealed that four of the students who were hit by the bullet sustained serious injuries.

Unconfirmed reports on the state of the health of the injured students has it that three out of the four affected student had died, while others said only one died out of the student died.

It was gathered that trouble started on Monday afternoon when some students of the institution were prevented from writing the institution’s first semester examination

Inorder to show their grievances to the institution’s management towards their exclusion from the sitting for the examination, the affected students allegedly took to the street with placards.

It was however gathered that the Provost of the institution invited the police when the protest by the student became violent as they started destroying the school facilities.
A student of the institution , who pleaded for anonymity said some of the student who failed to meet up with the school fees payment deadline were stopped by the institution from sitting for the examination.

" We started our first semester exam on Monday and those, who had not completed the payment of their school fees were prevented from entering the hall " the student said
He also added that the affected student, who initially appealed to the management the institution became angry and mobilised themselves and started the protest

" They were initially begging but later they mobilized and started singing in protest against the school authority " he said

He Further said that the peaceful protest turned violent as the student began to throw stones and bottles at some of the buildings, creating stampede in the process.

The students even after, the arrival of policemen continued their hurling of stones and bottles at the buildings , thereby disrupting the ongoing examinations in the halls.

The anti riot policemen reportedly shot into different directions hitting no fewer than four of the protesting students.

When contacted, the image maker in charge of the state police command , Ngozi Braide claimed not to be aware of the incident but promised to get back to us as soon as she is briefed by the area commander in charge of the area.
