A smirking dad who shook his baby son to death then gave SIX different explanations for his fatal injuries was jailed for 14 years today.
Violent Shane Hawkins, 25, 'flipped' on a 'mad, sad, rage-fuelled afternoon' and murdered 11-month-old Kaydon.
Hawkins savagely shook the tot then tossed him on to the floor after an angry row with his partner, the baby’s mum.
During the two week trial Hawkins was even pictured laughing and sneering outside Truro Crown Court.
He repeatedly changed his story telling police, doctors and paramedics a variety of explanations about how Kaydon’s devastating brain injuries happened.
But experts said retinal haemorrhaging in the tragic mite’s eyes was consistent with being violently shaken and thrown about.
Hawkins was found guilty of murder and jailed for life today and told he would serve a minimum of 14 years.
Judge Nicholas Hamblen told him: 'Kaydon’s death was caused at your hands - the hands of his own father.
'Kaydon suffered fatal injuries as a result of your actions on that mad, sad, rage-fuelled afternoon.
'At some stage you flipped and anger and frustration spilled over. You threw him down with considerable force and the shaking and impact caused fatal injuries.
'You pleaded not guilty and instead put forward a fictitious explanation that his injuries were caused by falling from your arms. The jury has rejected this false account.'

Kaydon was left alone with Hawkins on December 11, 2010 after an argument with partner Anna Libby, who left their flat in Bodmin, Cornwall, to go to work.
He then rang 999 just 17 minutes later to summon paramedics to the property and Kaydon was rushed to hospital where he died three days later.
Hawkins first told paramedics that Kaydon had fallen - then told a hospital doctor he had slipped from his arms and hit his head.

Hawkins then told a friend the baby had simply gone 'floppy' but he later explained to a medic that he dropped Kaydon on the carpeted floor.
His told another doctor Kaydon had suddenly started vomiting before telling police his son had banged his head on a heater.
Martin Meeke, prosecuting, said: 'Kaydon was only 11 months old when he died and we say this defendant killed him by shaking him so violently that it caused brain injuries that he could not recover from.
'Having shaken him, he either threw him down in his cot or struck his head, causing bruising to his head.'

Fiona Libby, Miss Libby’s sister, told the court Kaydon had previously showed signs of injury than hinted at a catalogue of violent abuse.

She said: 'When he was two to three weeks old he had two black eyes, just under his eyes and slight bruising on his nose.
'When he was a month old he had a cut mouth, his lip was cut and all his gums were black.
'The only time I remember him not having marks on him was when Shane was working full time.
'Once, Shane picked him up and Kaydon began crying like he was scared, I’ve never seen him cry like that before.'

Senior investigating officer, Det Insp Jackie Swift of Devon and Cornwall Police, said afterwards that Kaydon’s death was a 'violent act committed against a defenceless baby.'

She added: 'In the subsequent investigation, Kaydon was also found to have suffered other injuries during his short life inflicted by his father.'
