Two killed, many injured in multiple autocrash

At least two persons were killed  today morning and several seriously injured in a multiple auto accident, which happened at the Ile Zik Bu stop, Lagos/Abeokuta Expressway.
A crowd of onlookers at the scene of the crash, said that the accident as a result of some overzealous policemen, who were attempting to impound a commercial motorbike.
The accident caused serious traffic gridlock along the ever busy highway as commuters stranded for over four hours at different bus stops.
Emergency workers were also sighted at the scene, attempting to evacuate the mangled body of the affected vehicles.
An eye witness at the scene explained that one of the deceased persons was a passerby.

It was gathered that after his death, his pocket was searched and his identity card showed that his name was Gbenga, working with SLOT Telecommunications Company.
A non teaching staff at Anifowoshe Primary School, described the survivors of the crash as “very lucky people."
According to him, “a commercial bike rider and his two passengers, at about 10am, came riding along the road, when suddenly he noticed that a police van was coming fast behind him.
“Apparently determined to make sure that the policemen did not catch up with him and impound his motorbike, the motorbike rider increased speed, and started swerving in and out, it was just too dangerous and risky. He fell down with his passengers and they all ran away."
A refrigeration van, popularly known as Eko Meat van, whose driver was behind the motorbike rider, fought to control his van, so as to avoid crushing the motorcyclist and his passengers, but he was instead rammed into from behind by a container truck marked AKD964XB.
One of the two 20 ft containers on the truck fell on the meat van marked XY 433 AAA, crushing it beyond repair.
The truck meandered to the other side of the road, where it crushed the said Gbenga of SLOT Company.
Another eye witness said that the driver of the meat van and his three passengers were critically injured but were rescued and rushed to the nearest hospital.
But the driver of the meat van gave up the ghost before his rescuers could reach the hospital.
Emergency workers, including officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, National Emergency Management Agency, Nigeria Police Force, Safety Commission, Lagos State Traffic Management Agency and Nigerian Army were as at 3:30pm, still battling to remove the mangled vehicles at the scene of the incident.
Traffic was grounded to a halt for hours, forcing commuters to get off commercial buses and took to trekking long distance from the scene of the incident.
A commercial driver said the day was terrible and stressful to everybody.
National Emergency Management Agency, spokesperson, Ibrahim Farinloye, confirmed the death of two persons. He also said that four people were injured, adding that there were conflicting reports on the number of casualty.
